The May Meeting for the Yolo County Fire Safe Council took place on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 from 4 pm to 5:30 PM via Zoom.
The meeting was filled with information on new programs, funding opportunities, and project updates. During member announcements, Jorge Savala and Daniel Soria were introduced to the Fire Safe Council from Catholic Charities’ Emergency Preparedness Program. They provided an update on funding the Fire Safe Council received from the Fire Adapted Communities Network for HEPA filters to at-risk communities. Working alongside Kate Reza, RCD Program Manager, Jorge provided an update on how 19 air purifiers with HEPA filters will be distributed to residents residing in migrant communities in Madison, Dixon, and Davis. Check out the meeting recording for other announcements on the 2023 National Access and Functional Needs Symposium and a UCANR Forest Stewardship Workshop.
During the reports section, the Fire Safe Council heard from Yolo County Office of Emergency Services (OES), Yolo County RCD, Solano RCD and Fire Safe Council, and the community Fire Safe councils. Notably, Yolo County OES provided an update on the Agricultural Pass Program that is currently in development. From Yolo County RCD, YCFSC heard from Bailey Adams about the upcoming Yolo Prescribed Burn Association Demonstration Rangeland Burn tentatively scheduled for Saturday, June 17th. To register to attend that burn, folks can visit www.tinyurl.com/ypbaburn. Alli Permann, RCD Outreach Coordinator, provided an update on the Yolo County FSC Programs. The next Neighborhood Chipper Program is scheduled for Friday, May 26th in the Capay Valley.
The bulk of the YCFSC May Meeting concerned the re-allocation of Early Actions funds from Yolo County Office of Emergency Services to Yolo County RCD to assist in the implementation of priority projects outlined in the Yolo County Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). Previously, Early Action funds from Senator Dodd’s office were allocated to Yolo County Office of Emergency Services for a Siren System that was determined not to be feasible. Instead, Yolo County OES has proposed to re-allocate the funding to Yolo County RCD for CWPP project implementation. The next Yolo County Fire Safe Council Meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 28th at 4 PM via Zoom.
