Yolo Prescribed Burn Association March Meeting Recap

The Yolo Prescribed Burn Association March Meeting took place on March 16th from 4 PM to 6 PM at the Esparto Community Hall. In attendance were community members from the Capay Valley, local fire officials, and restoration professionals. This meeting primarily centered around reviewing and commenting on the Yolo PBA Membership and Liability Forms (linked below). These forms are foundational documents for the PBA and define the purpose, conditions of membership, and liability for folks participating in the Yolo PBA.

To kickoff the meeting, Bailey Adams, Yolo PBA Coordinator, facilitated a discussion about attendees motivations for possibly joining the PBA, potential roadblocks, and new ways to reach out to communities in the high fire areas. The presentation continued with an introduction into prescribed burning, its uses, and its benefits from PBA Co-Coordinator, Greg Pelaez. Before diving into membership documents and liability forms, Bailey Adams gave a presentation on how PBAs are typically structured and how they operate. Heather Nichols, RCD Executive Director, led the group through Membership Forms and Liability documents.

The next Yolo PBA Meeting will take place on Thursday, April 20th at 4 PM to 6 PM at the Winters Fire Department (700 Main Street, Winters, CA). The meeting will focus on Permitting and Liability and then dive into equipment demonstrations and proper usage of the Yolo PBA Gear Trailer (available to rent for PBA Members). Open to people of all professional backgrounds and/or fire practitioner skill levels, the Yolo PBA monthly meetings are a chance for potential members and interested residents to learn more about prescribed burning as a land management tool and the benefits of joining the Yolo PBA.
