The March Meeting of the Yolo County Fire Safe Council happened on March 22, 2023 from 4:00 to 5:00 PM.
With the promotion of Jonathan Flora to the position of Chair of the Yolo County Fire Safe Council, a new Vice Chair needs to be instated. Unfortunately, a quorum was not present to vote on a new Vice Chair. A vote has been postponed to the April Fire Safe Council meeting.
The Council heard reports from Yolo County RCD and Solano RCD. Notably, an announcement was made for the upcoming Yolo Prescribed Burn Association April Meeting that will take place on April 20th from 4 to 6 PM at the Winters Fire Department. The meeting will focus on permitting and compliance and then dive into the Yolo PBA’s Gear Trailer. Open to all backgrounds and fire practitioner skill levels, the Yolo PBA monthly meetings are a forum for community members and interested volunteers/prospective members to learn more about prescribed burning and its benefits. From Solano RCD, the Council heard updates on their Community Wildfire Protection Plan and an update on the upcoming Native Plant Sale that will take place on Saturday, March 25th from 12 pm to 5 pm. The event will feature workshops on fire smart landscaping and will offer a variety of native plants for sale that are perfect for drought tolerant landscaping, pollinator gardens, and fire-scaping.
The March Meeting concluded with a presentation on the recently submitted CAL FIRE Wildfire Prevention Grant application that Yolo County and Solano RCDs submitted to fund projects outlined in the Community Wildfire Protection Plan.
