November Fire Safe Council Meeting Updates

The November meeting of the Yolo County Fire Safe Council took place on November 16, 2022 from 4 to 5:30 PM. Typically on the fourth Wednesday of the month, this meeting was moved to an earlier Wednesday to accommodate the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Fire Safe Council heard reports from Yolo County Office of Emergency Services’ new Director, Kristin Weivoda. Weivado reported that Kurt Johnson of OES is working closely with forestory contractors and making progress on mitigation projects throughout the county. Yolo County RCD reported funding updates and opportunities as well as an update on the Yolo County Fire Safe Council website which is expected to launch in early December. Yolo County RCD also reported on a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) virtual workshop that will take place on December 8th. The workshop is open to all Yolo County community members that wish to learn more or contribute to the Yolo County CWPP.

Capay Valley Fire Safe Council reported that their members are working towards receiving their CERT (Community Emergency Response Training) certifications through FEMA. They also reported that Team Rubicon will be back in Capay Valley in the new year to complete sawyer training for new volunteers as well as help the elderly community perform defensible space work around their home.
