The Yolo County Fire Safe Council met for its monthly meeting on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 from 4 to 5:30 PM.
Yolo County FSC heard a report from Yolo County Office of Emergency Services including an introduction to the new Chief of Emergency Services, Kristin Weivoda. After Yolo County OES, the Fire Safe Council heard from Yolo County RCD with updates on projects, grant opportunities, and outreach updates. The countywide Fire Safe Council then heard from Community Fire Safe Councils. Notably, Capay Valley Fire Safe Council gave an update about a community event held on October 15th for Fire Prevention Week. Community members participated in demonstrations on how to use a fire extinguisher, what to pack in an evacuation go-bag, and jaws of life extractions from vehicles.
Next, Yolo County RCD shared a current Community Wildfire Protection Plan Project List to obtain input from members of the Fire Safe Council. Members were encouraged to provide project descriptions to assist in the CWPP process. Project descriptions can be submitted at the Yolo County CWPP Hubsite’s Project Submittal Form.
Unfortunately, due to scheduling issues, the special presentation on Arundo in the Cache and Putah Creek Watersheds was postponed to a later date.
The next Yolo County Fire Safe Council meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 16th from 4-5:30 pm on the third Wednesday in November (as opposed to the usual fourth).
